  • Hi John
    Wonderful words. I used to sing this hymn – Leaning on the everlasting arms, with a choir that I used to lead about 12 years ago. They were a group of about 6 young, wonderful black girls who sang in the more traditional African melancholic harmonies and it fast became one of our favourites.

    As I listened to this lovely rendition, I saw so many faces from back then. One girl became a really close friend of mine and she brought a whole rainbow of joy and love into my life. This lady was called Sylvia. She died of HIV AIDS a couple of years later, and I still miss her. She loved the Lord and the day she went to her beloved Jesus and into His everlasting arms, her rainbow went too, but there is still an echo left behind in my heart. I still give thanks to the Lord for Him bringing her into my life, albeit for a short time only, but I know that one day I will surely meet with her again.

    The Lord bless you, dear brother :-D

    Ihave been so richly blessed by JocelynBrown`s amazing rendition of these two gospel hymns.With heavy heart I pen this message especially asking that these words of Psalm 3verse 3 will become ever so real to Aaron our precious 28yr old first born son who is distressed and Satan`s attacks comein real heavy.
    Not in bad lifestyle but in form of recurring nightmares which he finds hard to let go of.
    Please dear believers lift Aaron up before the Throne of Grace and his girlfriend Delphine ;a french girl who professes no faith.
    May Atheism be eradicated forever from her heart soon Dear Lord Amen

    Thank you for such beautiful thoughts and even more important your sincerity in praying for my son & his girlfriend. They both plan to travel this weekend (DV ) out to Switzerland to teach for 5 weeks in an International School. A fellow schoolteacher & her husband who are saved are going also, so God`s plans shall be fulfilled in his time & come to fruition.
    Thank you for you sisterly love.
    Amen From A Sister -in -Christ

  • Hi Linda
    Welcome to Be a Mary and thank you for your comment. I am sorry that I have taken this long to reply to you.

    It is just wonderful how the Lord knows how to touch us in the secret, quiet places of our hearts and speak to us and lift our hearts to Him in worship. I have prayed for your son – that the Lord will show him what is going on and for him to cling fast to Him, and for you too, that your focus will stay on Him regardless of what is going on around you and for your son’s girlfriend that she might come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and most of all that God’s will might be done in each of your lives. Be so encouraged!
    Here is Psalm 91 for you.
    Psalm 91
    Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God
    1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
    Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
    2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
    My God, in Him I will trust.”

    3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
    And from the perilous pestilence.
    4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
    And under His wings you shall take refuge;
    His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
    5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
    Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
    6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
    Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

    7 A thousand may fall at your side,
    And ten thousand at your right hand;
    But it shall not come near you.
    8 Only with your eyes shall you look,
    And see the reward of the wicked.

    9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
    Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
    10 No evil shall befall you,
    Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
    11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
    To keep you in all your ways.
    12 In their hands they shall bear you up,
    Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
    13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
    The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

    14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
    I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
    15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will deliver him and honour him.
    16 With long life I will satisfy him,
    And show him My salvation.”
